II. JOB SUMMARY

The CSSD Technician will be responsible for control of all parts of the sterilization process: This includes decontamination, prep, pack, and sterilization of equipment

III. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DELIVERABLES

Core Responsibilities

  1. Document all sterilization of equipment. 
  2. Ensure sterile storage including remediation of equipment failures and hazards.
  3. Monitor biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment
  4. Sort mismatched sets of instruments, trays, and medical equipment and makes them available to sterile processing customers in a timely manner.
  5. Restock, labels, and maintain inventory, submits requisitions, collects, and distributes instruments, trays, and facility medical equipment.
  6. Perform environmental maintenance duties and assists in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing, the operating room and in equipment storage areas.
  7. Verify that equipment functions properly, requisitions for equipment maintenance, repair, or replacement, and remove defective equipment.
  8. Maintain a clean work area.
  9. Assist with maintaining established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality improvement, safety, and environmental and infection control standards.
  10. Maintain consistency and continuous workflow between the OR and CSSD while practicing excellent customer service.
  11. Operate and maintain sterile reliance machine; keep records of loads completed, items of loads and maintenance procedures performed.
  12. Operate and maintain decontamination equipment.
  13. Decontaminate, reprocess, and maintain flexible endoscopes and bronchoscopes.
  14. Monitor surgery schedules daily, identifying general, specific, and potential needs for all cases.
  15. Operate and maintain steam autoclaves, keeping records of loads completed, items in loads, and maintenance procedures performed.
  16. Maintain strong working/collaborative relationships with other departments to ensure flow and continuity of services.
  17. Participate in-service presentations, including but not limited to infection control, patient safety, quality improvement standards

JOB REQUIREMENTS 

Minimum Qualifications 

  1. BSCN, Diploma in nursing or theatre technician.
  2.  Healthcare-related coursework i.e, clinical medicine
  3. 2 years of exposure in the theatre/CSSD field.
  4. Experience in a busy theatre environment.
