1. Job Purpose

2. Key Responsibilities
A. Anaesthesia & Perioperative Management
- Conduct pre-anaesthetic evaluations and risk stratification for all surgical patients.
- Administer anaesthesia safely for elective and emergency surgeries (general, regional, or local).
- Monitor intraoperative parameters and ensure maintenance of airway, ventilation, and circulation.
- Supervise recovery and postoperative pain management in the PACU (Post Anaesthesia Care Unit).
- Maintain anaesthesia records and ensure documentation meets hospital and SafeCare standards.
- Collaborate with surgeons and nurses to ensure theatre efficiency and turnaround times.
- Ensure adherence to WHO Surgical Safety Checklist and theatre protocols.
B. Critical Care / ICU-HDU Management
- Lead the management of critically ill patients in ICU and HDU, including ventilatory and hemodynamic support.
- Establish and implement evidence-based protocols for sepsis, shock, ARDS, and mechanical ventilation.
- Participate in daily ICU multidisciplinary ward rounds and case discussions.
- Guide and supervise nurses and medical officers in ICU procedures and care plans.
- Review and authorize admission and discharge criteria for ICU/HDU patients.
- Coordinate with laboratory, radiology, and pharmacy for timely investigations and management.
- Participate in end-of-life care discussions, patient counseling, and ethical decision-making.
C. Quality & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with SafeCare Standards on patient safety, risk management, and clinical leadership.
- Participate in clinical audits, including morbidity and mortality reviews, anaesthetic complications, and ICU outcomes.
- Promote rational use of drugs, blood, and consumables.
- Ensure infection prevention and control (IPC) compliance in theatre and ICU.
- Report and analyze all adverse events, critical incidents, or near-misses using hospital reporting systems.
- Maintain calibration and safety checks of anaesthesia machines, ventilators, and monitors in collaboration with biomedical engineers.
D. Training, Mentorship & Research
- Provide leadership, supervision, and mentorship to theatre, ICU, and recovery room staff.
- Facilitate internal training and CME sessions on anaesthesia safety, airway management, and critical care skills.
- Support academic and research initiatives in patient safety, pain management, and intensive care medicine.
- Participate in staff competence assessments and appraisals.
E. Communication & Professional Conduct
- Uphold patient-centered, ethical, and confidential medical practice.
- Communicate effectively with surgical teams, patients, and families regarding anaesthetic plans, risks, and postoperative care.
- Collaborate with quality, pharmacy, and customer care teams to address patient feedback or complaints.

3. Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBChB/MBBS).
- Master’s Degree in Anaesthesia and/or Critical Care Medicine from a recognized university.
- Valid registration and annual practice license with KMPDC.
- Current certification in BLS, ACLS, and ATLS.
- Minimum 3 years’ post-specialization experience in anaesthesia and critical care.

JOB TITLE: STAFF NURSE THEATRE
REPORTS TO: NURSE INCHARGE
a) JOB PURPOSE
The OT Nurse is responsible for keeping patients safe during surgery by providing care before, during, or after surgeries.
b) MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensures that pre-op assessment is complete, including the surgical checklist and nursing documentation and notes any discrepancies and informs concerned staff accordingly.
- Receives the patient prior to surgery, gets report from the accompanying nurse and performs pre- op checklist.
- Familiar with OR procedures, RR routines, taking assignment e.g. narcotic cupboard.
- Effective management of pre-operative care of elective cases in the operating room
- Effective recovery of stable patients post any form of anesthesia.
- Assists with intubation and extubation of patient in the recovery room (RR) and if required in the operating room (OR).
- Communicates with anesthetists and primary teams regarding patient issues and shifting plans.
- Provides care to ventilated patients.
- Facilitates safe transfer of patient to alternate level of care on approval by anesthetist.
- Must effectively care use and maintain the following equipment
- Cardiac monitors
- Diathermy
- Promptly reports both clinical and non-clinical unusual findings/incidences to the nurse manager, team leader or Physician/Surgeons.
- Identify patient and family education needs and implement appropriate teaching
- Perform pain assessment and initiate analgesia as per protocol, patient presentation and doctor`s orders
- Nursing documentation is timely, comprehensive and complete reflecting the nursing process and nursing quality standards.
- Ensures a safe environment by applying safety measures for the patients/families and healthcare team by following infection control and other applicable policies.
- Coordinates theater list with concerned OR coordinator.
- Assists the physician in performing procedures e.g. scrub or circulayting nurse roles
- Ensure all specimens are properly labeled and delivered to the lab in a timely manner
- Provide safe environment for patients through adherence to infection control practices and other safety policies.
- Be able to recognize a patient in a pre- arrest or arrest states, and to initiate Basic Life Support
- Dispose of clinical and non-clinical waste safely in accordance with Hospital Guidelines on waste management
- Administer medication safely, monitor patient responses to medication and promptly report adverse reactions.
- Be accountable for judicious and efficient use of resources i.e. accurate and timely billing of ward stock drugs and consumables
- Care for equipment through cleaning, storage, per shift check of the inventory and timely reporting and follow up of nonfunctional equipment to the nurse manager
c) MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/ QUALIFICATIONS
- BScN, KRCHN or (KRN/KRM).
- Nursing experience of 3 years and above with at least two years as in busy OT
- Must be registered by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
- Valid Nursing Practice License.
- Valid competency in BLS, ACLS,will be an added advantage.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).

JOB TITLE: LABORATORY TECHNOLOGIST
REPORTS TO: LABORATORY MANAGER
a) JOB PURPOSE
Reporting to the Lab Manager will be responsible for shift coverage (operational and technical) functions of their allocated sections. They will facilitate in delivery of laboratory services in efficient and effective manner while positively impacting the department in the journey towards accreditation and thereafter, maintaining accreditation status.
Should be aware of the Quality Management System and demonstrate healthy interaction with colleagues and have a sense of responsibility as well as accountability.
b) MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Communicate to the Section Head on timely basis regarding any pre-analytical, analytical or post-analytical issues.
- Monitoring pending logs from LIMS and organizing section for well-coordinated performance so that tasks are completed within the stipulated time frame.
- Navigate through LIMS, including the acceptance of specimens into systems and printing unique Barcodes perform and be able to perform all tests within the department.
- Monitor all urgent and critical tests requests Turn Around Time e.g. ICU, HDU and A&E.
- Monitor stock levels within their areas of operation and alert the Section Head or Lab Manager in case of anticipated stock out of reagents.
- Performing daily checks – temperature charting, supervising benching cleaning and maintenance of waste disposal in the respective area.
- Implementation of technical SOP’S of their section and in day to day incidence reporting documenting in the logs available, checking and advising juniors on CAPA documentation.
- Recording and reporting all critical results to the concerned clinician or Nurse in-charge following procedures for Reporting Critical Values and documenting
- Supervision of Lab Assistants during their shift making sure to fill in gaps if workload increases in other section – demonstrate team player role.
- Any other roles assigned by the Supervisor
e) EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences.
- Registered with the laboratory Board.

a) JOB PURPOSE

A. Patient Care & Preparation
- Receive and prepare patients for radiological procedures (X-ray, CT, MRI, Ultrasound and Interventional Radiology).

B. Procedure Assistance
- Assist radiologists during diagnostic and interventional imaging procedures (e.g., biopsies, drainages, angiographic studies, among others).

C. Patient Monitoring

1. Job Purpose
To provide comprehensive, evidence-based paediatric and neonatal care aimed at promoting the health, growth, and development of infants, children, and adolescents, in line with hospital clinical standards, SafeCare requirements, and Ministry of Health guidelines.
The Pediatrician ensures optimal quality of care through accurate diagnosis, appropriate management, patient safety, and effective collaboration with other clinical departments.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Clinical Care & Patient Management
- Provide daily clinical evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment for all paediatric and neonatal patients (both inpatient and outpatient).
- Ensure timely and appropriate investigations, treatment, and follow-up in line with established Standard Treatment Protocols (STPs).
- Conduct ward rounds and document findings comprehensively in patient files.
- Ensure rational use of medicines and adherence to hospital formulary.
